Dear Alumnae and Friends,
When I came to Pine Manor College in the fall of 1962, I had no idea that “my” College had just completed its 50th year. Now, almost 50 years later, I am deeply honored to be chairing its Centennial celebration. What an enormous triumph this milestone represents: 10 decades of growth—10 decades of new beginnings and transformations—10 decades of lasting friendships—over 12,000 women of promise who have shared our Pine Manor experience.
With special attention to this remarkable, century-long role in women’s education, we celebrate the College’s unwavering commitment to:
- access and success for women of promise,
- building leadership in a multi-cultural world, and
- fostering exploration and growth through relationship-based education
We will also be celebrating memories, friends, classes and teachers, the sense of community we shared, and the excitement of what we can accomplish in the future.
To help plan our celebration, we established an Honorary Committee, a Working Committee and an Advisory Committee, all made up of alums, friends of the College, and members of the faculty and staff. There are also seven subcommittees: Alumnae Engagement, Fundraising, Gala, History, Marketing and Materials, Picnic, and Showcasing. We expect our celebration will take place over 18 months, from April 2011 to October 2012, with events, both formal and informal, scheduled on the “old” Wellesley campus, the “new” Chestnut Hill campus, and throughout the country. These events will provide wonderful opportunities to visit with dear friends, meet families of classmates, get to know fellow alums, reconnect with faculty and meet current students.
The Centennial celebration will be fun. We hope as many of you as possible will participate, and we are trying to plan something for everyone. Events on campus will range from an old-fashioned picnic to a gala dinner party.
As part of our preparation, we are collecting items for the College archives—everything from the yearbook of the Class of 1912 to beanies from the 60s to pictures of on- and off-campus events over the years.
We will also talk about the College’s exciting plans for the future and the ways we can all help to ensure that PMC will be here for decades to come. We want everyone to become familiar with and take pride in the Pine Manor College of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
In order to make our Centennial celebration a success, we need your help. Most importantly, look for the Centennial questionnaire on this website and let us know more about your Pine Manor experience by filling it out. It will be great fun to share our experiences with each other and to personalize the Centennial celebration. There are many ways you can get involved if you wish: join one of our committees, volunteer for on-campus activities, hold a regional event or get together with classmates to host a birthday party. Your participation will be the key to our success.
For more information or to volunteer, please contact me at email@example.com or contact the College at firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to working with you to ensure that our Centennial celebration is the success you would like it to be.
