Off Campus Access to Online Library Databases

Recommended Databases: Literary Reference Center and Academic Search Premier. Also: Contemporary Literary Criticism and Academic One File (Select Info Trac Gale Database Collection from the Off Campus List and then scroll down for Contemporary Literary Criticism or Academic One File).

On Campus Access to Online Library Databases

  • Contemporary Literary Criticism Select: critical essays about authors and their works.
  • Literary Reference Center: Provides users with a broad spectrum of reference information from antiquity to the present day. LRC is a completely full-text database that combines information from over 1,000 books and monographs, major literary encyclopedias and reference works, hundreds of literary journals, and unique sources not available anywhere else.
  • Academic OneFile: peer-reviewed, full-text articles from scholarly journals and reference sources.
  • Academic Search Premier: multi-disciplinary database provides full text for more than 4,650 journals, including full text for more than 3,900 peer-reviewed titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.
  • LexisNexis: large database of current and archived newspaper articles.
  • Pop Culture Universe: a digital library of information on American and world popular culture, past and present.

Other Databases

  • Google Scholar: multidisciplinary with some links to full text. Try the Advanced Search feature.
  • Electronic Resources from the Boston Public Library: Register for an eCard from www.bpl.org, Click on "My Account" and register for an eCard using your PMC student address.
  • MLA International Bibliography (from the Boston Public Library): Register for an eCard from the BPL. Access to more than two million bibliographic citations to journal articles, books, dissertations, and scholarly Web sites. It indexes materials from 1926 to the present in academic disciplines such as language, literature, folklore, linguistics, literary theory and criticism, and the dramatic arts.
  • Literature Resource Center (from the Boston Public Library): Register for an eCard from the BPL. Materials from many different print and online sources, including scholarly journals, literary reviews, reference books, authoritative websites, and more.

Books and Interlibrary Loan Requests

Search the library catalog for books on your subject.

During residency weeks, you may borrow books from the Pine Manor College library. Since Pine Manor College is part of the Minuteman Library Network, you may continue to borrow books while you are enrolled in the program if you are able to return them to any of the Minuteman Libraries.

WorldCat lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world.
