STANDISH, ME -- St. Joseph's opened up a 10-2 lead out of the gate and outrebounded Pine Manor 56-35 in a 74-41 victory over the Gators Wednesday night at the Harold Alfond Center.
Forward Meghan Daigle's layup put the Monks in front 10-2 just 4:23 into the contest. A 12-3 St. Joe's run capped by a Melanie Cloutier three-pointer put the home team ahead 36-15 with 1:05 left in the first half. Gators guard Enjolee Phillips scored five straight points to make it a 36-20 game at intermission.
A Paulette Wright jumper cut the Monks lead to 12 with under 14:00 to play, but a 19-5 Monks run put to rest any ideas of a comeback.
Daigle led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Phillips scored a team-high 14 points for Pine Manor, converting on both of her three-point attempts. Freshman forward Tia Nelson followed with 11 points, shooting 2-6 from distance.
Wright finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Wednesday marked the fifth straight GNAC contest in which the sophomore totaled at least eight points and eight boards.
Pine Manor returns home to take on Emmanuel on Saturday at noon.
