STANDISH, Maine -- Saint Joseph's College of Maine ran its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) record to a perfect 10-0 mark, defeating Pine Manor College 88-39 on Tuesday evening at the Alfond Center in Standish, ME.
Saint Joseph's (ME) sophomore forward Abby Young (North Yarmouth, ME) recorded a double-double, scoring a game-high 25 points off the bench while also collecting 10 rebounds. Young was as one of five Saint Joseph's (ME) players to finish in double-figures, helping the Monks to race out to a commanding 45-21 halftime advantage en route to the victory.
For Pine Manor, senior Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA) finished with a team-high 11 points. PMC sophomore Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH) also finished with 10 points for the Gators. Freshmen Phalonge Pierre (Boston, MA) grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds for Pine Manor. However, Saint Joseph's out-rebounded Pine Manor by a wide 50-34 margin.
The Gators will return to action on Friday when they host Saint Joseph's College of Brooklyn at 7:00 p.m. Friday's game will be part of the national 'Play4Kay' campaign, taking place across the nation from February 10-20 in an effort to raise cancer awareness. All fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink and make a donation in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. As part of the game, the Pine Manor College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will also be holding a free raffle for all fans in attendance.
