BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women’s soccer team fought hard in a 2-0 non-conference loss to the Pine Manor College Gators on Monday afternoon at Everett Field. The Mountaineers celebrated “senior day” recognizing the accomplishments of Kiara Bates, Washington, D.C., and Amber Coutermash, Westport, Conn.
The Gators (1-13-1) struck in the 13th minute of play on an unassisted goal by junior Beth Deegan who lofted it over a jumping SVC (0-15) keeper from 40 yards out. Mountaineer freshman keeper Catrina Cecchini finished the day with seven saves. PMC got some insurance with 75:36 on the clock when Jackie Sprague shot it over Cecchini for an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.
Southern Vermont sophomore Shawnee Webster led the Mountaineers offensive surge with four shots on goal (five total). Captain Joellen Demers, Danielle Celotto, and Coutermash each contributed a shot for the offense. Freshman goalie Natasha Kopystynsky got her first win in the frame for PMC.
The Gators close out the season on Wednesday, October 27 on the road in Nashua, NH against the Daniel Webster Eagles at 3:30 p.m.
