MAYSOON SHAFI '14
What is your hometown?
My hometown is Dayton Ohio
What is your major?
I'm majoring in Visual Arts and minoring in Communications.
What are your goals for after college?
I hope to become a graphic designer but I also hope to raise awareness of the harmful effects media often has on women and society as a whole.
What brought you to Pine Manor College?
I was interested in returning to the Unites States for college and also in attending an all-women’s college. Pine Manor was also very welcoming.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Pine Manor that you think will help you when you graduate?
Women are powerful. They can be leaders and they can initiate change.
What do you think is the best thing about Pine Manor that people don’t know about?
The faculty, staff and students are like a family. I personally have never received so much encouragement in my career as a student.
HEBA KHURRAM '14
What is your hometown?
I am from Pakistan. My hometown is Sailkot. In America, my home town is Malden, MA.
What is your major?
I am a double major in Biology and a self-design major, Health Care Administration.
What are your goals for after college?
I intend to start pursuing a career as a hospital administrator. With my experience, I hope to open up and run hospitals in third world countries and low income areas in the U.S.
What brought you to Pine Manor College?
The head of guidance of the city of Malden personally advocated for Pine Manor College.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Pine Manor that you think will help you when you graduate?
Pine Manor has taught me the importance of seeking help when needed. I learned how to be an independent woman. I learned how to create my own opportunities.
What do you think is the best thing about Pine Manor that people don’t know about?
Pine Manor College welcomes any type of female student with open arms. They do not discriminate nor do they play favorites. Everyone, every student, every person at this institution is treated as an equal with the utmost respect.
VANESSA GOMES '14
What is your hometown?
I was originally born in Brazil but my heart is situated in Boston.
What is your major?
I'm currently a sophomore majoring in Communication with a minor in International Relations.
What are your goals for after college?
My goal after college is to attend law school and become a human rights attorney. One of my life long dreams is to open a NGO in Brazil to help impoverished families get access to higher education.
What brought you to Pine Manor College?
One of the things that brought me to Pine Manor College was the dynamic multi-cultural student body, which I immediately associated with. I also found a unique supportive environment for students to reach academic success.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Pine Manor that you think will help you when you graduate?
Pine Manor College has given me the opportunity to further my education and has nurtured in me a sense of “social responsibility” to become an agent of change. These instilled values have shaped who I am today and have made me a more responsible member of society. And that is something that I will continue to pass on for the rest of my life.
What do you think is the best thing about Pine Manor that people don’t know about?
There are so many great things about PMC but one of the things that I will always be grateful for is the endless encouragement given by the PMC staff & faculty that bring out the best of me.

Become a novelist and, possibly, an early childhood educator.
What brought you to Pine Manor College?
The size of the campus and the focus on empowering women.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Pine Manor that you think will help you when you graduate?
There are opportunities everywhere. Even when you think you have no experience and no way of moving forward, something always pops up. You just need to keep an open mind.
What do you think is the best thing about Pine Manor that people don’t know about?
The professors, faculty and staff are all absolutely amazing. They make you feel right at home.
KARLA RIBEIRO '12
What is your hometown?
My hometown is Minas Gerais, Brazil (Currently residing in Plymouth, MA for 10 yrs).
What is your major?
My major is Social and Political Systems with a concentration in International Relations.
What are your goals for after college?
My goal is to go to grad school and hopefully get a job with an international organization and God willing, be part of the United Nations in the near future.
What brought you to Pine Manor College?
At PMC I could experience a personal level of globalization helping me to develop my multicultural perspective, which is vital to my major.
What is the most important thing you’ve learned at Pine Manor that you think will help you when you graduate?
What I have learned at PMC is that giving back to others is not only essential for professional success but for self -fulfillment as well.
What do you think is the best thing about Pine Manor that people don’t know about?
The best thing here at PMC is the fact that if you are determined and dedicated the school as a whole is willing to help you to pursue yours goals and become not only women of promise but women of prowess.
