Fila Running Presents
Second Annual Discovery Kenya Night
at Pine Manor College

July 27, 1999

Chestnut Hill, Mass.--

They are masters of their sport. Week after week, race after race, road after road, Kenyan athletes are the leaders of the running world. On Tuesday, August 10th, Fila Running presents some of these same elite Kenyan distance runners at a special Discovery Kenya Night. High school runners, coaches, and their parents are invited to participate in this free running clinic. Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill and the Boston Running Club will host the event collaboratively.

The site of the 1999 Fila Boston Training Camp for the second year in a row, Pine Manor College is a four-year liberal arts college preparing women for lives of inclusive leadership and social responsibility in their workplaces, families and communities.

All participants will meet at the Pine Manor College Gymnasium at 6 PM. Following is a schedule of the evening's events:

  • 6 PM: Group will assemble at the Pine Manor Gymnasium.
  • 6:30 -- 7:50 PM: High school athletes will participate in a training session with the Kenyan athletes as well as members of the Boston Running Club.
  • 8 -- 8:30 PM: All will gather for dinner.
  • 8:35 -- 9:30 PM: Participants will further interact with the Kenyan athletes at a question/answer session.

With the Falmouth Road Race set to take place on Sunday, August 15th, these members of the Fila team will be preparing for one of the world's premier road races. John Korir (2nd last year at Falmouth) looks to go head to head with Khalid Khannouchi (1998 Men's Champion), while Margaret Okayo (11th in 1998) prepares to go stride for stride with Catherine Ndereba (1998 Women's Champion). Discovery Kenya Night is a perfect opportunity for New England's high school cross country and track athletes to learn from these athletes as they get ready to make Fila's presence known in Falmouth.

Special Bonus: The first 100 high school athletes who RSVP will receive a Fila Boston Training Camp T-shirt. In addition, Fila distance spikes and apparel will be raffled.
