Don Bogen, poet, critic, and translator, whose awards
include the Poetry Society of America, The Writer/Emily Dickinson
Award, the Associated Writing Programs Anniversary Grand Prize Award,
and the Discovery/The Nation Award, will present the first poetry
reading to the Pine Manor College community this fall. Bogen is
professor of English at the University of Cincinnati. Luster, his
newest book of poetry, is forthcoming in November, from Wesleyan
University Press. His other poetry publications include the books
The Known World (Wesleyan, 1997) and After the Splendid
Display (Wesleyan, 1986). Bogen has also translated poems of
Johannes Bobrowski, Bertolt Brecht, and Juan Roman Jimenez. His
book of criticism, A Necessary Order: Thomas Roethke and the Writing
Process, was published by Ohio University Press in 1991. Commenting on Luster, Alan Shapiro, author
of Song and Dance, said, Don Bogen has long been one
of our finest poets, and Luster is his best book. Distinguished
for its mix of styles and forms, Luster attempts nothing
less than a reclamation of public poetry
