Chestnut Hill, MA – (March 16, 2015) -- Pine Manor College, a private, four-year, liberal arts college in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, will launch an internal consulting program this fall, designed to help career professionals become better managers, communicators, strategic thinkers and innovators within their organizations. The Internal Consulting Development Program will be the housed in the college’s Center for Innovative Professional Development.
The 18-month internal consulting program can be completed as a non-credit certificate, a second bachelor’s degree, or a first time bachelor’s for those holding associate’s degrees. It will combine once-a-week evening courses with online learning.
“The nature of management is changing,” said Dr.Charles Tweedly, Director of Pine Manor College’s Center for Innovative Professional Development. “In the modern workplace, expertise in a given discipline is rarely enough to ensure career advancement. Instead, managers are valued for their ability to drive innovative change that helps the organization keep up with economic, workplace and market trends. This program seeks to transform career professionals into motivated consultants within their organizations.”
The program is designed to benefit professionals in almost any career, ranging from information technology to human resources, finance and accounting, organizational development, project management and more.
Class sessions for the Internal Consulting Development Program are led by experienced career coaches and specialists in career management and organizational development. Students start the program by creating professional development action plans, and classes are modeled as coaching sessions rather than the traditional lecture. The program’s project-based format allows students to immediately apply lessons to their current careers.
“A finance professional might have the financial skills to rise to top management, but that professional’s college degree likely didn’t cover how to motivate a team, handle delicate conversations, and think outside the box,” said Professor Tweedly. “This program covers what many career professionals didn’t learn in school, and allows them to dramatically increase the value they bring to their employers.”
