CHESTNUT HILL, MA— Pine Manor College started the game on a 14-2 run en route to a commanding 67-40 win over The College of New Rochelle during game two of the Boston Invitational Tournament on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Brunelli Court at Pine Manor Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, MA.
Yiafia Dowridge (White Plains, NY) scored 19 points off the bench to lead all scorers in the game while Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA) recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points while also grabbing 13 rebounds. Jessica Gilmore (Dorchester, MA) also finished in double-figures for Pine Manor, scoring 11 points and grabbing 7 rebounds.
After establishing the 14-2 lead just over six minutes into the game, Pine Manor continued to add to its margin, with the Gators leading by as many as 29 points in the first half. A pair of free throws by Elizabeth Johnston (Plano, TX) pulled New Rochelle to within 44-19 at the half, but the Blue Angels would get no closer than then the 25 point deficit for the remainder of the contest. Johnston had 17 points and six rebounds to lead New Rochelle in both categories.
Pine Manor owned a 58-34 rebounding advantage in the game while also shooting 39 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc. New Rochelle shot only 23 percent for the contest and managed only to convert 1-12 from three-point range.
In the second half, Pine Manor grew its lead to as many as 35 points with just over five minutes remaining. Dowridge scored 12 of her 19 points in the second-half, shooting 5-8 from the field while also hitting two three point shots. Pine Manor will now face Albertus Magnus, after the Falcons defeated Lesley in the days first game, 64-26.
Albertus was led by a game-high 21 points from Bianca Brown (West Haven, CT). Brown also collected a team-high nine rebounds in the contest to help the Falcons to a 53-41 advantage on the boards. Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, CT) also finished in double-figures for Albertus with 14 points.
A pair of free-throws by Brown at 15:29 of the first-half put the Falcons ahead 10-4 in the early going. Trailing by 6 early, Lesley then scored the next two, pulling within a point a 10-9 following a three-pointer by Emily Fleming (Medford, MA) at 12:01. Fleming finished with a double-double, scoring a team-high 12 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes for the Lynx.
Albertus then countered with a 13-0 run, pulling ahead by 14 points with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening half. From that point forward the Falcons only extended their lead as they would head into the locker room with 23 point advantage thanks to a 37-14 lead. Lianna Carrero (Hamden, CT) also finished with 5 assists for the Falcons, who collected 16 assists a team while shooting 37 percent from the field.
In the second-half the Falcons continued to roll, extending their lead to 38 points and taking a 64-26 victory and advancing to Sunday’s Championship game against Pine Manor College.
Lesley will face New Rochelle in the Third-Place Game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday November 20, 2011. That game will be immediately followed by the Championship Game between Pine Manor and Albertus Magnus at 3:00 p.m.
