NEWLONDON, CT -- Pine Manor dug itself an early ditch less than six minutes into its season opener, a 4-1 setback at Mitchell College Wednesday evening.

Caley McClendon connected to put the Mariners on the board at 5:43 with her fourth goal of the season. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half, Rebecca Tabak beat a leaping Colleen Tencza from the top of the box to extend the margin to 2-0 at halftime.
Pine Manor entered the locker room being outshot 11-1, with Mitchell earning the match's only corner kick.
After holding the Mariners scoreless in the second half inside the 60:00 mark, Mitchell tallied two scores within eight minutes to put the contest out of reach. Marjorie Oliveira and Brittany O'Neil each scored their first goals of 2010, with O'Neil's coming off a steal on a Pine Manor throw-in to open up a 4-0 lead at 71:31.
Roberts' first career goal on her sixth career shot and first of the season was also off a steal lobbing one in over Mariners keeper Kaylee Woodward at the 82:00 mark.
For Pine Manor Tencza tallied nine saves, while junior Alicia Grenier took a team-high two shots in reserve action for the Gators (0-1). On the game, Pine Manor was outshot 23-5, with McClendon's five shots leading all players.
Cory Kinsella's club opens Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Saturday at Rivier at noon. The Gators return to Chestnut Hill to take on Newbury at 4:00 Monday afternoon at Hedley Field.
