NASHUA, NH -- In a match that went scoreless into the final minutes, Rivier squeaked out a 1-0 win over visiting Pine Manor Saturday afternoon in both schools' Great Northeast Athletic Conference season opener.
"We played well an controlled most of the game," said Pine Manor head coach Cory Kinsella. "They just got that late goal."
The Gators controled the tempo for much of the contest, spending a majority of the game in Raiders territory. However, a pile-up in front of the Pine Manor net resulted in Rivier freshman forward Sarah Richard beating goalkeeper Colleen Tencza in the 86th minute for the game's only score, leaving little time for a Gators rebuttal.
Pine Manor falls to 0-2 (0-1 GNAC) after dropping both halves of its two-game road trip. Kinsella's club now returns to Hedley Field for three straight contests, starting with Newbury on Monday at 4 p.m. The Gators host GNAC rival St. Joseph's of Maine on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
