NASHUA, N.H. -- Pine Manor seniors Therline Dumeran (Cambridge, MA), 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Paulette Wright (Baltimore, MD), 10 points and 10 rebounds, both recorded double-doubles but Pine Manor dropped a high-scoring 100-76 decision to Rivier College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night in Nashua, NH.
Rivier College senior Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) led all scorers with 33 points, while freshmen Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) finished with 25 points and senior Chelsea Baker (Nashua, NH) had 25 points for the Raiders, who improve to 10-6 (4-1 GNAC). The loss drops Pine Manor to 5-8 (0-5).
Rivier got out to a a 26-5 lead less than seven minutes into the first-half, following a lay-up by Baker. The teams exchanged baskets for the remainder of the first-half, with the Rivier lead holding around 20 points until the closing minutes of the first. A lay-up by Dumeran with 2:03 remaining cut the deficit to 17 points before a lay-up by Phibe Pham (Boston, MA), a three-pointer by Tia Nelson (Rockport, MA) and another basket by Dumeran closed the gap to 11 points at 47-36-- the smallest deficit since four minutes into the contest. Baker then put down a basket to give Rivier a 49-36 halftime advantage.
In the second-half, Pine Manor had no answer for Amandra and Deanna Purcell, as Amandra scored 19 of her 33 points while Amandra scored 14 to extend the Rivier lead to as many as 31 points with just over points remaining. From there, the Raiders closed out the Gators for the 100-76 win.
Pine Manor returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to West Hartford, CT to take on Saint Joseph College (CT) at 1:00 p.m.
