CHESNUT HILL, Mass. -- Pine Manor College senior defender Margaret Roberts (Allentown, PA) scored her second career goal, converting on a late penalty kick opportunity, but Pine Manor was topped by Newbury College 8-1 on Tuesday, September 25 at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA.
The Nighthawks were led by Senior Forward Ashleigh Guy (Chepachet, RI), as she netted four goals and dished out two assists. The win marks the first of the season for Newbury as the Nighthawks move to 1-4 overall.
The Nighthawks jumped on the board early in the first half, finding the back of the net 14 minutes into the game. Guy used a tap pass from teammate Jamie Tannura (Fort Myers, FL) to knock the ball past Pine Manor goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) for her first goal of the day.
Despite the loss, Kopystynsky was outstanding in net, collecting an impressive 24 saves on the day for the Gators.
Tannura’s assist was just the start of a record day for her as well, as she went on to score 3 goals in the game. Tannura knocked in two of her three goals in the first half, just ten minutes apart from one another, while teammate Corrinn Niski (Oxford, CT) netted her third goal of the week, to help Newbury take a 4-0 lead heading into halftime. Guy then knocked in two more goals, just four minutes apart, to open the second half.
However, Pine Manor would was able to get on the scoreboard with just seven minutes left in the game as Roberts drilled a PK into the Nighthawks net to put the Gators on the board. Tannura would later complete her hat trick with her third goal of the game as time ran out to secure the 8-1 win for Newbury.
Pine Manor falls to 1-6 at the half way mark of the season. The Gators will return to action this Saturday when the Gators host Saint Joseph's Brooklyn at 12 noon at Hedley Field.
