BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Pine Manor senior Alicia Grenier (Swansea, MA) netted a pair of goals but Pine Manor fell to host Massachusetts Maritime, 6-2, on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium in Buzzards Bay, MA.
Grenier put the Gators ahead 1-0 just 7:44 into the match scoring on a breakaway that was created by a pass from sophomore Tesla Castillo (Boston, MA). From that point on the match belonged to the Buccaneers.
Mass. Maritime's Colleen Fissette (Dracut, Mass.) converted a penalty kick after a foul in the box just under four minutes after Grenier's marker. Senior Kerri Conway (West Springfield, Mass.) then scored the first of her two goals to give the hosts the lead for good in the 34th minute of action.
MMA sophomore Lauren Salem (Westfield, Mass.) extended the Buccaneer advantage to 3-1 in the 68th minute by converting a Conway pass. Massachusetts Maritime then extended its lead to 5-1 with a pair of markers that came less than six minutes apart midway through the final 45 minutes of play, as junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) and freshmen Laura Marin (West Yarmouth, Mass.) each found the back of the net.
Grenier added her second marker of the evening with 6:23 remaining off another pass from Castillo to make the score 5-2. Conway would then counter with her second of the night to secure a 6-2 victory for Mass. Maritime.
Pine Manor sophomore Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, Ill.) made 24 saves in the setback for Pine Manor as the Buccaneers outshot the Gators by a 49-4 margin for the match.
Pine Manor will next hosts Regis next Thursday, October 20th at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
