Soccer Stumbles in Season Finale

Weston, MA - In spite of launching more than twice the shots the Pride got off, the Gators left with a 3-1 loss on Regis College's senior day Thursday.

Jacqueline Sprague (Oxford, MA/Oxford) fired a team-best seven shots, Alicia Grenier (Swansea, MA/Joseph Case), six, and Beth Deegan (Philadelphia, PA/Little Flower), four - including a first half penalty kick on which Regis goalkeeper Jackie Sullivan made a diving stop with the Gators down 0-1. Pine Manor outshot the Pride 23-11 in all.

Pine Manor allowed an early goal for the thrid straight game, with Meghan Roan putting the Pride on the board at 7:39, then again with just under 16 minutes left in the half. Grenier cut the deficiet to one 7 minutes later, but was all the Gators could muster in spite of hte decided advantage in attempts.

Thursday's contest marks the final game of 2008 and the last in the careers of three Gators, Essence Denton (Chicago, IL/Woodlands of Sacred Heart), Natalie Hunt (Topsham, ME/Mt. Ararat), and Bethany Kappel (Jamesville, NY/Manlius Pebble Hill). The trio eared a combined 11 varsity letters.
