Clermont, FL -- Pine Manor dropped both ends of a doubleheader vs. Indiana Tech on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the National Training Center in Clermont, FL. The Gators dropped the first game to the Warriors 10-0 and the second game by a score of 5-1.
In the first game, Indiana Tech freshman pitcher Tori Kilps (New Berlin, WI/Eisenhower HS) was nearly perfect for the Warriors as she struck out nine batters without surrender a walk. Kilps carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before Pine Manor freshman Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, RI/William E. Tolman Senior) hit a two-out single to give the Gators their first base runner of the game.
Indiana Tech sophomore Martika Armstead (Richmond, IN/Northeastern HS) hit two home runs and had four RBI's to lead the Warriors in the first game, while junior Tara Doehler (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet) and Kirylo split the pitching duties for Pine Manor.
In the second game, the Gators got out to an early 1-0 lead as freshman Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) first inning double was followed by a two-out single from junior Kayla Nielsen (Saco, ME/Thornton Academy) that would drive home Carusone and put the Gators on the board.
Doehler would silence the Indina Tech bats until the bottom of the third when Indiana Tech would drive in a pair of runs. Indiana Tech sophomore KC Wright (Elk Grove, CA/Elk Grove) drive in a run to tie the game before senior Jenn Anderson (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame HS) would single to drive in the go-ahead run for the Warriors. Anderson would finish the game 3-3 with a double and 2 RBI's.
In the bottom of the fifth, Indiana Tech would tack on three more runs to take a 5-1 advantage into the seventh. While the Gators were able to advance runners to second and third in the top of the final innning, they were unable to push across another run as Indiana Tech would take the 5-1 victory.
Pine Manor will play St. Scholastica on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. before closing out its spring break schedule on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 with a 9:00 a.m. contest versus Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
