LEWISVILLE, N.C. - Pine Manor College Softball dropped a 10-2 decision in six innings to Agnes Scott College on day two of the 2013 Great South Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament. With the setback, Pine Manor ends the 2013 season with a record of 12-10.
The Scotties got out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the inning after Pine Manor left two runners on in the top of the first.
Trailing 4-0, the Gators put together a rally to cut the deficit in half. Freshman Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, CA) led off the inning with a single through the left side of the infield before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Senior Kaylyn Delgado (Worcester, MA) then followed with a single of her own, scoring Rose, before advancing to second on the throw to the plate. A third straight single from freshman Betzy Maysonet (Boston, MA) put runners on the corners with no one out.
With two runners on base, junior Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) then delivered a double into the left centerfield gap to score Delgado. However, Maysonet was cut down at the plate trying to score from first. With two runs in and Kopystynsky on second the Gators were unable to add any more to their total as the next two batters grounded out in order, stranding Kopystynsky on third to end the inning.
The teams both played a scoreless third inning but Agnes Scott would eventually added to its lead in the next three innings. Scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 10-2 lead and end the game in six innings due to the eight run margin. With the result, the Scotties advanced to take on Salem College later in the day.
