CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After dropping the first two sets of the night, Pine Manor College Women’s Volleyball rallied to force a fourth set before ultimately coming up short, 3-1, to the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles on Tuesday evening at Brunelli Court. The Eagles secured set victories of 25-10, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-14 to improve to 3-4 on the season. Pine Manor drops to 0-6 on the year with the loss.
The Eagles were paced by a standout performance from freshman Madeline Roulier (Pittsfield, MA), as she finished with a match-high 15 kills, hitting .231 over four sets, and nine digs. Classmate Cristina Matos (Tampa, FL) finished second on the Eagles with nine kills while senior Bree Cosgrove (Raymond, NH) recorded seven kills, four set assists and four service aces. Senior Ally Haden dished out a match-high 27 set assist as seven Eagles in total recorded at least one kill on the evening.
It looked like Daniel Webster would be in control from the start of the match as the Eagles took the first set by a dominating 25-10 margin. However, Pine Manor fought back in the second set, but came up just short, dropping the frame 25-22.
With Daniel Webster leading 2-0, Pine Manor continued to fight and ultimately secured their first set victory of the 2013 season, taking the third set 25-21. The Gators were led my junior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, CT) who put down six kills on the evening. Franklin was followed by juniors Phalogne Pierre (Boston, MA), who finished with five kills, and Destiny Mann (Orlando, FL) who put down four kills on a team-high 21 attempts. Susan Le (Lowell, MA), Mann and Alexis Bushika (Adams, MA) all finished with nine kills to tie for match-high honors.
Following the Gators third set victory, the Eagles took back control of the match. Daniel Webster raced out to an early 12-4 lead in the third set and never looked back, closing out the game with a 25-14 victory.
Pine Manor will return to action on Thursday when they travel to take on Becker College at 7:00 PM. Daniel Webster will also be on the road Thursday evening, when they head to West Hartford, CT to take on the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph University. Saint Joseph will then host Pine Manor and Pratt Institute in a tri-match this Saturday.
