Pine Manor dropped a 3-0 (9-25, 15-25, 7-25) decision to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) front-runner Johnson & Wales University (JWU) on Tuesday October 19.
With a 25-9 victory in the first set, JWU took control of the match early. Karlie Haack (Selkirk, NY/Ravena-Coyemans-Selkirk) led all players as she put down 4 kills for JWU, who improves to 10-0 in conference play with the win and 20-9 overall.
Pine Manor attempted to rally back in the second set, but came up short as JWU took the second set 25-15 and eventually would capture the third set by 25-7 margin. Junior Jennifer Gross (Coral Springs, FL/Coral Glades), and sophomores Alie Johnston (Winnipeg, MB/River East Collegiate) and Aponi Washington (Brockton, MA/Brockton) each totaled 3 kills for the Gators. While freshman Ashley Carusone (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) and classmate Megan Patch (Bethpage, TN/Red Boiling Springs) each had a match high 9 digs. Patch also finished the match with 13 set assists.
The Gators return to action on Thursday, October 21 as they host the University of Southern Maine. The Gators encourage fans to wear pink to the match, as Pine Manor will sport pink in an effort to help raise awareness for breast cancer. The match starts at 7pm.
