NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Pine Manor Volleyball dropped both games of a non-conference tri-match at Saturday at Mitchell College's Yarnall Gym in New London, CT. Pine Manor's record now falls to 0-3 early in the 2012 season.
In the first match of the day, the Gators took on the hosts from Mitchell College. After dropping the first two sets of the match (25-12, 25-15), Pine Manor fought back to take the third set with a 25-19 victory. The Gators would keep it close in the fourth set but would ultimately drop a 3-1 final to the Mariners. Sophomore Destiny Mann (Orlando, FL) finished the match with a team-high eight kills. Senior Alie Johnston (Winnipeg, MB, Canada) and freshman Michelle Cole (Quincy, MA) each finsihed with five kills. Johnston also recorded 13 assists.
In the second match of the day, Pine Manor had no answer for Albertus' Kelsey Pendagast as she finished the with a match-high 12 kills, helping to lead the Falcons to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-10) victory over the Gators. For Pine Manor: Mann, Cole and sophomore Phalogne Pierre (Boston, MA) each recorded four kills in the setback.
Pine Manor will return to action next weekend when the Gators take on local rival Lesley College at 1:00 p.m. in Cambridge, MA.
