CHESTNUT HILL, MA—Pine Manor dropped both games of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Saturday, October 29, 2011. The Gators dropped a 3-0 decision to Lasell College before suffering a 3-1 setback to Suffolk University. Saturday was also senior day for PMC's lone senior Jennifer Gross (Coral Springs, FL). Gross recorded 24 kills on the day to finish the season with a team-high 222 kills.
In the first match, Gross and freshmen Destiny Mann (Orlando, FL) each recorded 9 kills but Pine Manor was unable to capture a set from visiting Lasell. The Gators fell into early holes in each of the three sets versus the Lasers and found themselves unable to rally from behind. Gross also had a team high 10 digs in the first match. With the straight set decision (25-23, 25-15, 25-15) and the victory over Pine Manor, Lasell clinched a berth in the GNAC tournament.
In the second match of the day Lasell defeat Suffolk, 3-0. During the match, Lasell senior Meghan Crozier (Ballston Spa, NY) recorded her 3,000 career assist during the Lasell vs. Suffolk match today. Three points later, Lasell senior Jenna Lynn Geary (Marion, MA) recorded her 1,000 career dig.
Despite 15 kills from Gross, Suffolk defeat Pine Manor in the final match of the day. Junior Alie Johnston (Winnipeg, MB) finished second for PMC with 12 kills in the match. During the first match versus Lasell, Johnston also recorded her 500 career kill for the Gators. Freshmen Amy Keokanlaya (Walls, MS) had a team-high 22 digs. While, Mann and sophomore Ashley Carusone each finished with 15 digs respectively.
Pine Manor responded in the second set, taking a 25-20 victory to tie the match. In the final two sets the teams went point for point as Johnston and Gross each put down more kills as the match went on. However, Suffolk would rally to close out both the third and the fourth set by 28-26 scores and take the match. For PMC, sophomore setter Megan Patch (Bethpage, TN) finished the match with 42 assists.
Pine Manor finishes the season with a 14-9 overall record, finishing 4-9 in GNAC play. For the Gators, the 2011 win total is the highest for the program since the 2001 season when Pine Manor won 18 games.
