ATLANTA, Ga. -- Trailing 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Wesleyan Ga. scored four runs on five hits and an error to take a 9-8 victory over Pine Manor College softball on Friday morning during the 2014 GSAC Softball Championship at Shirley Clements Mewborn Field at Georgia Tech.
Pine Manor sophomore Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.), above, led all players with four hits, going four for five with a run scored in the contest.
Anastasia Walker (West Springfield, Mass.) drove in the first of her three RBIs in the top of the first inning, as the Gators got out to an early 2-0 lead. Wesleyan's Colleen DeGraff (Concord, GA.) then rallied the Wolves in the bottom of the inning, knocking in the first of her three RBIs to help tie the score at 2-2.
After a scoreless second, the Gators taked on three runs in the third before senior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.) hit her second home run of the season to give the Gators a 6-4 advantage in the fourth inning. Kirylo finished the day with two hits and is now one hit shy of 100 in her career at Pine Manor.
DeGraff would drive home her second and third RBIs of the day in the bottom of the sixth, scoring a pair of Wesleyan runs as part of the four run inning. Wesleyan freshman Amber Gasparich (Byron, Ga.) then capped off the Wesleyan rally with an RBI single back up the middle, the last of five hits for the Wolves in the bottom of the sixth.
The Gators will return to action tomorrow at 11:00 AM in Game 8 of the GSAC Tournament.
