CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Four different Gators scored in double-figures, led by sophomore Alexis Lee's (Akron, Ohio) team-high 17 points, as Pine Manor College women's basketball defeated visiting University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) 81-66 on Saturday afternoon at Brunelli Court.
PMC sophomore Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) and freshman Maria Vaughan (Okinawa, Japan) each added 12 points for the Gators, while sophomore Khiyana Isaac (Boston, Mass.) added 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Sophomore Ari DeJesus (Providence, R.I.) fell just short of her fourth straight double-double, scoring nine points while collecting a game-high 16 rebounds. DeJesus also dished out six assists while Vaughan added five of her own for the Gators who had 19 assists as a team.
UMPI senior Olivia McNally (Sherman, Maine) led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 8-15 from the field. Amanda Hotham (Fort Farifield, Maine) finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench for the Owls.
Presque Isle's Kristen Thompson (Medway, Maine) scored the first points of the game on a layup but that would be the only lead the Owls would hold in the contest. Pine Manor led by as many as 17 points late in the first half following a layup from Lynch that capped a 10-0 run with 1:56 to go before the half. Pine Manor would go into halftime with a 44-29 advantage.
The Owls could do little to stop the Gators inside the paint, as PMC outscored UMPI 56-20 on points in the paint.
In the second half, the Gator lead grew to as many as 30 points en route to the 81-66 Pine Manor victory.
Pine Manor will be back in action at 7:00 PM on Thursday evening when they travel to take on the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Conn. Presque Isle will return home to host Eastern Maine Community College next Saturday at 1:00 PM.
