Pine Manor College Integrated into Boston College
Effective June 30, 2020, Pine Manor College began a two-year integration agreement with Boston College. Renowned for Educating with Purpose and successfully serving a wide range of students, over 80% of them first-generation, low-income students of color, Pine Manor College achieved a graduation rate roughly four times the national average for this demographic and a post-college career or advanced studies placement rate of more than 90% within six months of graduation.
The integration agreement between Pine Manor College and Boston College has enhanced and accelerated the Pine Manor College mission. Most notable are the creation of two programs; the Pine Manor Institute for Student Success at Boston College, and what will become the new Messina College, which will reside in the historic campus of Pine Manor College. Both programs are focused on increasing access to Boston College specifically and higher education in general for traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities.
Support for all former Pine Manor College students and alums continues now and into the future. At the time of the agreement, Pine Manor College students were afforded generous two-year individualized teach-out plans, which supported various paths to graduation and career placement. Boston College is now the Institution of Record for graduates and individuals who attended Pine Manor College and need transcripts, academic records, and other services. Pine Manor College alums retain their designation as Pine Manor College alums and are treated as members of the Boston College Alumni Association entitled to all the benefits of such, including access to events, publications, and career services. Additionally, Pine Manor College archival information is now stewarded by Boston College.
All members of the Pine Manor College community can be proud of this transformation. I am thankful for the bold and thoughtful leadership of the Board of Trustees; the commitment and dedication of faculty, staff, alums, and friends; and the perseverance and vision of students, all of whom made significant contributions to ensure that the mission and legacy of Pine Manor College are secure and will live on to benefit generations to come.
Very truly yours,
Thomas M. O’Reilly
