Mark Hardie is a serial entrepreneur and start-up veteran with a passion for innovation and the Director of Framingham State University’s Innovation Center. The son of two teachers, he has taught and lectured on technology issues at Harvard, MIT, University of Virginia, and University of Hartford. He is a career-long mentor at the MIT Sloan School and currently a Career Coach at Harvard Business School, working with start-up teams, founders and would-be entrepreneurs.
A Massachusetts native, Mark attended primary and secondary schools in Holyoke MA, is a graduate of Tufts University and the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management. He brings extensive experience launching start-ups, driving corporate strategy and business innovation, all with a focus on Internet business models, mobile device platforms, and cloud-based SaaS business models. Throughout Mark’s career, you’ll find proven success taking whiteboard ideas to market, raising capital, and managing product development, roll-out, and ongoing business operations.

Duncan Walker is Co-founder of Jebbit (a software platform), Entrepreneur-in-residence at Boston College, and Managing Director of SSC Venture Partners. At BC and SSC Venture Partners, Duncan helps first-time founders including many dorm room startups to start and grow their own businesses. Duncan has worked with over 150 companies in the last five years. Duncan’s specialization is Product Management with a strong understanding of software development, design, and marketing. Duncan maintains several open-source software projects, which are used by some of the biggest companies in the world, including Yahoo, LinkedIn, and Wikia. Duncan is an avid console gamer and supporter of Norwich City FC.”

Melissa James is an award-winning entrepreneur, speaker and author. In 2014, Melissa founded The Tech Connection whose mission is to help companies make meaningful connections that empower and engage diverse talent by promoting inclusive hiring best practices. The Tech Connection has a strong track record of building high-performing diverse teams for elite companies such as Google, Teradata, the New England Venture Capitalist Association, HubSpot, Wayfair, Carbonite, DataXu, Vertex Pharmaceuticals and more.
She has received the U.S. Presidential Service Award, the UMass Distinguished Young Alumni Award, BostonInno’s 50 on Fire Award, the Mosaic Award from the MA Technology Leadership Council, the 2015 Pursuer award from the African Youth Excellence organization for her relentless commitment to the community. Melissa was born and raised in Boston, MA and graduated with honors from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. In May, 2019 she was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree by Pine Manor College.
The Pine Manor College Business and Management Department in conjunction with President Thomas O’Reilly and Entrepreneur in Residence, Jeffrey Ross, presents the 2019 Entrepreneurship Speaker Series– From Idea to Business!
The program offers an intimate presentation by each speaker allowing interaction and QA for PMC students with distinguished speakers in their chosen field. The presentations will highlight experiences, lessons learned, and unique issues and challenges faced by entrepreneurs when taking an idea for a new product or service and starting a new business.
