MFA Winter Residency 2014

The Solstice MFA in Creative Writing Program of Pine Manor College celebrated its eleventh graduation on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Seven students ranging in age from 27 to 58 and representing five states—including Missouri, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Florida, Michigan, and Connecticut—received their diplomas: fiction writers Heather Christie, Andrew Davis, and Lisa Mahoney, and creative nonfiction writers Ann Breidenbach, Debbie Merion, Rich Tombeno, and Beth Richards.

Pine Manor College’s President, Dr. Joseph Lee, spoke to the assembled family, friends, and former graduates in attendance, followed by Program Director Meg Kearney. Class speaker Beth Richards offered some words regarding the impact of the Solstice MFA Program on she and her fellow graduates, and then acclaimed nonfiction writer and teacher Mimi Schwartz served as Commencement Speaker, bringing her wisdom and humor to a brief address that encouraged graduates to maintain the community established during the MFA program and urging them to keep at the challenging work of being a writer. Dean Bill Vogele and Vice President for Enrollment Glen Thomas were also in attendance to applaud the achievements of the program and its graduates. A reception followed, where more than 75 guests celebrated in honor of the graduates.
