Dear Members of the Pine Manor College Community,

As the College looks to celebrate another successful academic year, we have identified two honorary degree recipients. Each has made her mark on the profession she has chosen. We are honored to have these women as part of our 2013 commencement ceremony.

Dr. Susan Windham-Bannister was appointed by the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Life Sciences to be the Center’s first President and CEO. The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center is a quasi-public entity created by the Legislature to promote the life sciences within Massachusetts. The Center is at the heart of the state’s new $1 billion life sciences initiative and is fast becoming the hub of connectivity for all sectors of the life sciences community, encouraging unprecedented public-private collaboration among industry, research, academia and government. Dr. Windham-Bannister has 35 years of consulting experience. She sits on a variety of boards of directors and is a frequent speaker and panelist at conferences on competitive strategy.

Bishnu Maya Pariyar was offered sponsorship to attend college in the United States by Eva Kasel!, an American who was impressed by the changes brought to Pariyar’s village in Ghorka, Nepal. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social and Political Systems at Pine Manor College and has a Master of Arts from Clark University in International Development and Social Change. Pariyar has defied a 2,000-year-old caste system by becoming an educated Dalit woman. She is going even further, breaking down the rigid Hindu caste system of Nepal by empowering other Dalit women through education and micro-finance groups. She was the driving force behind the Association of Dalit Women of Nepal, now called Empower Dalit Women of Nepal (EDWON).

Please join us in celebrating these great women who will be a joining us for commencement.
