Beatriz Rivera '11 Receives Neighborhoods Fellow Award

Beatriz Rivera, community health educator at the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center, was honored with the Philanthropic Initiative's Boston Neighborhoods Fellow award by Mayor Thomas Menino. Each Boston Neighborhood Fellow receives an unrestricted grant of $10,000 each year for a period of three years.

Rivera began working as a health educator for Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center in 2011.  Rivera has spent time working in State Senator Sonia Chang-Diaz's office, and has worked closely with other elected officials representing Jamaica Plain.

The Boston Neighborhoods Fellow Program identifies and supports best practices of community service in neighborhoods of Boston. The individuals chosen as fellows work for government, community organizations, or are outstanding volunteers. A goal of the program is to increase public recognition of excellence in community service.
