The Copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. The law contains a provision for “fair use” in educational institutions. A government commission was convened to interpret “fair use,” resulting in the CONTU guidelines. Pine Manor College adheres to these guidelines.
Some implications for library users include:
- Interlibrary loan is allowed five articles from any one journal title for a one-year period. After this limit is reached, the library must pay a royalty fee for each subsequently ordered article.
- Photocopied items may be placed on Reserve only once without permission from the publisher.
