Gators Suffer 4-1 Setback to Wheelock

BOSTON, Mass. – Wheelock College freshman midfielder Katlyn Rose D’Errico (Nashua, NH) recorded the first three goals of her career to lead the Wheelock College women’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over visiting Pine Manor College Tuesday evening at Winsor Field in Boston, MA.

The Gators broke into the scoring column first when freshman midfielder Rachel Sanchez (Hyde Park, MA) set up junior midfielder Amanda Powell (Lumberton, NJ) for her first goal of the season with a cross to the top right of the box at 14:55 of the opening half. The Wildcats pulled even at 30:43 when freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Donnelly (Atkinson, NH) found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. She collected a rebound off a shot from senior forward Kailah Simon (Norwalk, CT) and scored inside the box.

D’Errico then recorded her first tally came on a feed from sophomore midfielder Emma Petner (Hilo, HI) to give Wheelock a 2-1 edge at 31:31 of the first half. D’Errico increased the home team’s lead to 3-1 when she unleashed a hard shot from the top right corner of the box past the keeper at 75:59 of the second half. D’Errico’s third score came less than four minutes later when freshman Madeline Domingo (Newington, CT) lifted a cross from midfield into the box, where D’Errico corralled it and beat the keeper for a 4-1 Wheelock lead at the 79:23 mark.

Wheelock owned a 33-7 shot advantage over Pine Manor in the game as PMC goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, IL) stopped 13 shots in net.

With the win the Wildcats match their longest win streak in school history with their second straight victory to improve to 3-8-0, while the Gators fall to 1-6-0. Pine Manor will return to the pitch on October 10 when they host Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA at 4:00 p.m.
