Visions: From New York to Tuscany
March 8 – April 22, 2006
This exhibition will include paintings and works on paper inspired by the energy and light of modern New York City and by the landscape of Tuscany. In the painting “Mother in Her Apartment at Dusk,” contrasts are drawn between the light of the apartment and the exterior street and sky. Similarly, Hodes paints the color and atmosphere of Italy today and thereby re-interprets Bellini’s “St. Francis In Ecstasy,” which she calls “A Vision.”
Through the use of saturated color and optical reflections she imaginatively fuses perception and memory, the past and present.
Artist’s Lecture Reception: Wednesday, April 5, 7pm in the Founder’s Room; reception immediately following in the Hess Gallery
