Pine Manor College is pleased to announce the appointment of Diane Mello-Goldner, Ph.D., as Dean of the College.

Prof. Mello-Goldner has been with Pine Manor College’s Psychology Department since 1994 where she has demonstrated great commitment to our students, and to our entire College community. Throughout her years of service to Pine Manor, Prof. Mello-Goldner served on many important committees and most recently as the Chair of the Division of Natural and Social Sciences.

Prof. Mello-Goldner earned her Ph.D. in Social/Personality Psychology from Lehigh University in 1994, her M.S. in Psychology from Lehigh University in 1992 and her B.A. in Psychology from Boston College in 1990. Her early research focused on self-handicapping and its effects on the self-concept. Her more recent research has focused on goal attainment and self-efficacy in academic and sports settings and the scholarship of teaching and learning. Prof. Mello-Goldner's dedication, creativity and focus on teaching excellence was most recently demonstrated by her award of the Ruth Allinger Gibson Teaching Award, selected by students.

William Vogele, Ph.D., who served as the Dean of the College since 2011, joined Pine Manor in 1996 and is a key member of the Pine Manor community. He will be resuming his faculty position as head of the program in Social and Political Systems.

Prof. Vogele earned his Ph.D. in Politics from Brandeis University and a BA in Peace and World Order Studies from Colgate University, and has been an active scholar of international relations and peace studies. Among numerous publications on nonviolent action, protest and peace he is an associate editor of the Oxford International Encyclopedia of Peace and a co-editor of Protest, Power, and Change: An Encyclopedia of Nonviolent Action. Prof. Vogele’s current work focuses on the challenges of building democratic cultures and institutions in post-conflict transitions and in the face of civil violence. Throughout the years Prof. Vogele, a gifted teacher and mentor, has demonstrated his passion and dedication to our college’s mission – we are grateful that we will continue to benefit from his insight, experience and hard work.

 Pine Manor is a private four-year liberal arts college situated on 50-plus wooded acres in the Chestnut Hill section of Brookline, Massachusetts, only a few miles outside of Boston.
