CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Newbury College sophomore Corrinn Niski (Oxford, Conn.) scored four first half goals to lead the visiting Nighthawks to a commanding 7-1 victory over Pine Manor College women’s soccer on Monday afternoon at Hedley Field. With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 4-8-0 overall while Pine Manor closes out the 2013 season with a record of 2-10-0.
Niski struck just five minutes into the contest when she went flying down the left flank and beat PMC goalkeeper Natasha Kopystynsky (Johnsburg, Ill.) low for the first goal of the game. Kiski repeated her effort just under 15 minutes later, this time beating Kopystysnky to her right, to make the score 2-0 Newbury just 20 minutes into the contest.
Kopystynsky finished her final collegiate game with 12 saves, finishing with a staggering four year total of 615 saves.
Newbury sophomore Niki Pelliccio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added the next Nighthawk marker at 21:21 of the first, before Nisiki added her third when she scooped up a deflected feed from Amanda McKenzie (Brockton, MA) to make this score 4-0.
Mckenzie then followed with a pair of goals of her won, finishing on breakaway on a through ball from Pelliccio at 28:40 before scoring on her own rebound following another breakaway in the 35th minute of the contest. Nisiki would then add her fourth goal of the contest just before the half when a cross slipped through the hands of Kopystynsky and found her why to Niski for the goal.
Trailing 7-0 at the break, PMC was able to get one back as senior Amanda Powell (Lumberton, N.J.), also playing in her final collegiate game, scored on a shot following a corner kick by Rachel Sanchez (Hyde Park, MA). Powell, Kopystynsky and fellow seniors Christina Warnke (Livermore, Calif.) and Tamara Sakala (Lusaka, Zambia) played the final match of their collegiate careers as the Gators concluded their 2013 season this afternoon.
Newbury will now look forward to a contest with conference foe Regis College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 PM at Hedley Field in Chestnut Hill, MA.
