Dear Pine Manor College Community and Friends:
The events of this weekend in Charlottesville, VA fill many of us with sadness and anger. Our thoughts are with the victims of violence, their families, and their friends. Our hearts are with each of you who works to overcome injustice every day. And, our hope is for peace and community.
Pine Manor College stands alongside the University of Virginia and Charlottesville community. We condemn violence and hatred, bigotry, and intimidation. College campuses are a place for learning and exploration to further our thoughts, ideals, and selves. Hatred and violence get in the way of that pursuit and do not fall in line with the social justice, diversity, and inclusive work that Pine Manor College strives to achieve on campus.
As Mayor Walsh has made clear this week, hate groups and hate speech are not welcome in Boston. Similarly, violence and hate has no place at Pine Manor College as we continue to build one community and one home for our students, faculty, administrators, and friends of the college.
Let us please use these events to re-affirm and re-embrace our work, our mission, and our values of social justice, inclusion, and equity.
In kindness, strength, and solidarity,
Thomas M. O’Reilly
